Course Descriptions

American Red Cross Lifeguarding

Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Blended learning combines online learning with in-person skills sessions. Student complete the 7hs of online learning at their own pace before coming to the first skills session.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding - Backboarding

New Lifeguarding: Blended Learning

Class for new students. Class includes 7 hours of online training and 20 hours of skill practice sessions over 2 days.



Prerequisites: 

1) Minimum age 15 years

2) Compete 7 hr online training prior to fist 

    skills session

3) Swim 300 yards continuously

3) Tread water for 2 minutes using only

     the legs

4) Complete a timed to retrieve a 10lb brick 

    from 7-10ft deep, 20yds away within 1 

    min, 40 sec

American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor

Lifeguard Review: Blended Learning

$120.00

Review classes are for students with current American Red Cross certifications to renew their certifications.  Class includes 7hours of online training and 1, 10-hour skill session.

 

Prerequisites: 

1) Minimum age 17 years

2) Hold a current, or expired no more than

    30 days, American Red Cross  

    Lifeguarding CPR/AED certification.

3) Compete 7hr online training prior to fist 

    skills session

4) Complete the 3 parts of the Lifeguard 

    pre-course swim test

Waterfront Module: Full Classroom

$75.00

Class teaches the additional skills needed to work in non-surf, open-water areas found at public parks, resorts, summer camps  and campgrounds. Class is 1, 5-hour session.

 

Prerequisites: 

1) Minimum age 15 years

2) Hold a current American Red Cross 

    Lifeguarding CPR/AED certification.

3) Complete the 3 parts of the Lifeguard 

    pre-course swim test

4) Swim 550 yards continuously using

    freestyle and breaststroke only

5) Swim underwater 15yds and retrieve 3  

     items on 1 breath.

This class trains instructor candidates to teach classes in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor

New Lifeguard Instructor

This class trains instructor candidates to  teach classes in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding, program


Prerequisites:  

1) Minimum age: 17 years

2) Possess a current Red Cross certificate

    for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED

3) Complete the Online Session    

4) Complete the pre-course skills evaluation

American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor

Lifeguard Instructor Review

This class is for currently certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructors to renew their Instructor and base level certifications


Prerequisites:  
1)  Hold a current, or expired no more than

    30 days, American Red Cross Lifeguard

    Instructor certification.


Swimming Instructor

These courses trains instructor candidates to teach courses presented in the Swimming and Water Safety program to all age groups; Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim Levels 1-6,Adult Swim, and private swimming lessons . This certification is the gold standard and provides the most comprehensive training for swim instructors.

Basic Swim Instructor: Full Classroom

This course trains instructor candidates to teach the fundamentals of teaching. BSIs are not required to perform advanced  swimming strokes and skills such as butterfly, backstroke and diving.

 Prerequisites:  

1) Minimum Age 16

2) Swim at level 3 proficiency, 25yds of Front 

     Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary 

     Backstroke, and Sidestroke.

3) Float on back for 1 min

4) Tread water for 1 min

Water Safety Instructor: Blended Learning

The "Gold Standard" in swim lesson training, WSI provides the most complete training for teaching all the courses presented in the Swimming and Water Safety program.

  BSI Program plus:

  Learn-to-Swim Levels 4-6

  Adult  Swim 

  Starts & turns

  Diving progressions


 Prerequisites:   

1) Minimum Age 16

2) Swim at level 4 proficiency, 25yds of 

    Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke,

    Elementary Backstroke, Sidestroke, 

    and 15yds of butterfly

3) Float on back for 1min

4) Tread water for 1min


CPR / AED

These courses train individuals how to respond to cardiac emergencies and provide life-sustaining care.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course provides healthcare providers and public safety professionals the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adult, child and infant patients. Consistent with the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR/ECC, BLS is the foundational CPR/AED program typically required for healthcare providers and public safety professionals.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

The purpose of this course is to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. This program is offered in traditional classroom or blended learning (online learning with instructor-led skill session) formats. 


Safety Training for Swim Coaches

Safety Training for Swim Coaches was developed in partnership with USA Swimming to teach those involved in competitive swimming, including coaches, officials and trainers.
