Lifeguard Training is a hands-on activity that will by necessity involve close contact with other participants. By participating in class, the student acknowledges the inherent risk of infection. North Star will help mitigate these risks by enforcing the following guidelines. These are in compliance with American Red Cross and State of Texas precautions.
A) Student should not participate in class if they or any member of their immediate family have
shown signs or symptoms of the COVID-19 virus within the last 14 DAYS. If you feel unwell,
North Star will waive its medical transfer fee so that you may participate in a later class.
B) Class size will be limited to 10 students. Large enrollment classes will be split into smaller
groups that will not mix after the pre-course test.
C) Due to the seriousness of the training, North Star will not abridge, modify, or amend any of the
skills presented in the American Red Cross Lifeguard training course if doing so will compromise
the efficacy of the skill. North Star will take appropriate measures to incorporate CDC guidelines
of social distancing where appropriate to the training. Students will be required to complete the
multiple rescuer response scenarios in close quarters to other participants to obtain their
certification. If you are uncomfortable with this requirement, please speak to the instructor
about transferring to a later class.
D) Students may wear face coverings if they choose during dryland skills. Face coverings should not
be worn during in-water skill sessions.
E) North Star will provide each student with their own set of training manikins for the class. Training
equipment will be cleaned at the end of each class day. Students will be asked to share a
manikin only for multiple rescuer scenarios, and then only with appropriate Personal Protective
Equipment. Manikins will be cleaned between rounds of these multiple rescuer scenarios.
F) North Star will provide pocket masks, non-latex gloves and cleaning supplies for general class
use. Students may disinfect their equipment as they feel the need. Students may keep their
pocket mask at the end of training. Students will receive training on how to properly disinfect their
equipment.
G) Part of the Lifeguard training includes training on Blood-Born Pathogens.
